Deanne Butterworth and Jo Lloyd All Our Dreams Come True

Opening: Wednesday 19 October, 6-8pm Dates: 19 October – 5 November 2016

Deanne Butterworth and Jo Lloyd propose an exhibition of live performances, with components of the
performance remaining in the gallery.

Deanne and Jo are currently investigating how performance can materialise as expected or hoped. Replacing
familiar performance preparation and execution with new parameters, their concern is in how organisation
contributes to the choreography that takes place. The aims of live performance to happen as predicted - realised,
fulfilled or unfulfilled.

An extension of their previous work together,Project Blah Blah(Hong Kong 2011),All Our Dreams Come True
examines two bodies and the space they inhabit, always together and separate. A driving premise for the work; I
am not you, you are not me, will reveal live proposals and negotiations between both performers and their
audience/ the viewer. Through observation, what knowledge is exchanged? How does one affect the other and
the affect this has on those watching?

Jo Lloyd works with choreography as a social encounter, revealing behaviour over particular durations and circumstances. A dance graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, she has presented her work in gallery spaces and theaters in Japan, New York, Hong Kong, and locally in the Next Wave Festival and Dance Massive. Recent projects include; ‘Confusion for Three’ at Arts House, ‘How Choreography Works’ with Deanne Butterworth and Shelley Lasica for the Biennale of Sydney and ‘Mermermer’ created with Nicola Gunn for Chunky Move’s Next Move commission. She has performed extensively in the works of choreographers Shelley Lasica, Chunky Move (Gideon Obarzanek) and Sandra Parker. She created choreography for Half Brother by David Rosetzky (2013) and a durational work with Stephen Bram and Nicola Gunn for Melbourne NOW at NGVI and Gertrude Contemporary (2014). Jo has received several Green Room and Australian Dance Award nominations, two Asialink Performing Arts Residencies (Japan 2004-5) and the Dancehouse Residency (2008). Jo is the Resident Director of Lucy Guerin Inc. 2016.

Deanne Butterworth is a highly regarded Australian dancer and choreographer creating experimental works for a

in work by Lee Serle, ‘Multimodal’, (both at The Substation), and created a new work, ‘The Interlude’ for Spring 1883 at The Windsor. Deanne has created works on her own and collaborated with other leading
artists in many settings including, Dance Massive, Lucy Guerin Inc, West Space, Dancehouse, Art Gallery of New
South Wales, and NGV for Melbourne Now to name a few. She has worked with choreographers, Phillip Adams,
