Zainab Hikmet Between Then and Now (and maybe tomorrow)

Opening: Wednesday 10 May, 6-8pm Dates: 10 May – 3 June 2017

I have never felt the distance between us more than what I do right now and we have spoken more in recent weeks than we have in the past few years.

We spoke at length about what you intended to do, in our exchange of late night messages.

My experience of your work always has been a test of patience and it seems this piece is no different.

In the days following our talks, I would catch myself thinking about you out there on the ship, not quite sure if my thoughts ever did coincide with the actual event. I learnt to revel in the not-knowing.

Which brings me to my reason for writing - you never did tell me about your journey.

I hope that you found what you have been searching for - if, of course, you have been searching. Assumption always has been a downfall.

I wonder where I will find myself on the night of your opening. Split between times. They say we never can be in two places at once but I am not so sure I agree.

I hope we can talk soon, before everything resurfaces.
