Molly Dalziell, Daniel Collins Championship Point

Opening: Wednesday 25th March, 6-8pm Dates: Mar 25 - Apr 21 2026

Championship Point is a collaboration between Molly Dalziell and Daniel Collins that brings their practices into dialogue through the paradox of a shared game. The title derives from tennis: the decisive point where a ‘champion’ is declared. The absurdity of its dominating power to define the outcome of a match. To be the covergirl of performing a game’s logic. The exhibition merges and plays with both artists’ practices through the conditions of a game: playing on the same team while working in opposition, mirroring the duality of practising and playing. A shared nostalgia for playing and watching sports: the uniform that comes with it, the choreographic and spatial intervention that follows.

Line as demarcation of space nestles sweetly in the shoulder of codified spaces of a court, pitch or field. Thresholds of boundary govern a site of opposition and contest. Gestures conditioned by rules and conventions are applied to every movement in relation to a line. Within an oppositional match, rules become a concentrated model of the invisible agreements that organise bodies in space. Companion or enemy. To cross, to hold, to defend, to retreat, to advance, forward, backward, left, right, up down.

Daniel Collins (b. 2005) is a Vietnamese Australian artist living and working on the lands of the Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin nation. With a multi-disciplinary studio practice, he explores family connection and history, Vietnamese culture and various personal interests. He uses humour and wit as a tool to unpack and comment on tokenism and accessibility in an art context. He is currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drawing & Printmaking) at the Victorian College of The Arts.

Molly Dalziell (b. 2006) is a Greek-Maori Australian artist living and working on the lands of the Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin nation. Working primarily with photography and sculpture, her practice is oriented around genealogy (whakapapa). Through investigating her lived experiences, her work investigates the philosophical and spatial logics that operate in governing and structuring bodies. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photography) at the Victorian College of The Arts.
