Stephanie Wilson Deceptionist

Opening: Wednesday 21 May, 6-8pm Dates: 21 May-7 June 2014

This installation project will be based around the contemporary office environment. I am interested in the psychological atmosphere corporate environments and how these spaces imply different social dynamics and modes of encounter.

The installation is intended to reflect upon the nature of interior space within an office context and the awkward nature of the social interaction that takes places within. Design elements within these environments will be referenced, in particular the use of indoor plants that are regularly used to decorate these spaces and make the inhabitants feel more comfortable about spending long periods of time indoors under florescent lighting.

Stephanie Wilson is a Melbourne-based painter who depicts interior spaces such as waiting rooms, office cubicles and public foyer spaces. These paintings are often exhibited as part of an installation that echoes the painted image.

Wilson completed her Master of Fine Arts at RMIT University in 2010 and has been exhibiting around Australia regularly since. Recent solo projects include Aint got no business doing business today at Blindside (2012), Plain Site at Belconnen Arts Centre, Canberra (2013) and Inside Voices and Other Social Norms at Martin Browne Contemporary, Sydney (2013).
