Elise Sheehan Keeping Up

Opening: Wednesday 27 April, 6-8pm Dates: 27 April–14 May 2016

Keeping up is an attempt to understand what categories, if any, we can sort existing things by offering a visual taxonomy of items and allowing the viewer to decipher each singular object and examine the individual nuances within a larger work.

Elise Sheehan is a jeweller and object maker based in Melbourne. She holds a Diploma of Studio Textile Design from RMIT University TAFE and a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) in Object based Practice from RMIT University. She has exhibited in Melbourne, Germany and the Netherlands.

Largely Elise’s practice is anchored in simple shapes and forms. The production, placement and consideration of multiple items or objects is paramount. This emphasis on the arrangement and grouping of work provides a platform to express a range of ideas related to succession, space, scale and the dualities of internal/external space or light and shadow by creating landscapes, tableaux or scenes.
