Jessica Curry How’s it going in there?

Opening: Wednesday 14 February, 6–8pm Dates: 14 February - 10 March 2018

“How’s it going in there?” explores the ways in which modern consumerism articulates a disappointing demand for an absent ideality.

Firmly embedded within these consumerist practices is an engagement with the immaterial, a commodification of ideas and a fetishized treatment of objects. Cultivated within the modern consumer is a seemingly insatiable appetite for more and more, to participate in ever increasing games of social distinction through the enhancement, performance and accumulation of commodities - or capital. “How’s it going in there?” endeavours to articulate these immaterial engagements and often subliminal processes by subverting and abstracting imagery and display methods to highlight and destabilize the apparent perpetual cycle.

Jessica Curry is a Queensland born artist living and working in Melbourne, Holding a B. Fine Arts and a B. Fine Arts (Honours) from RMIT. Upon graduating Curry was awarded the studio start up scholarship with the Abbotsford Convent and has exhibited recently (group/solo) with the Honeymoon Suite, NKN Gallery, Tristian Koenig Gallery, Blindside and Tinning Street Presents.
