Exhibits,

Jon Hewitt it’ll fall all of a sudden, like yesterday

Opening: Tuesday 18 October, 6-8pm Dates: 18 October – 5 November 2011

unseen, everyday mundane beauty is explored in two videos. ‘the lights are on, everybody is home’, but no one cares captures that so often missed event a streetlamp turning on, a beautiful urban spectacle. ‘it’ll fall all of a sudden, like yesterday’ contemplates this spectacle on a journey yet never quite succeeds in capturing that same beautiful moment;
an irrational longing and absurd expectation that never reaches fruition.

we’ll just have to come back tomorrow…

‘the act of contemplation itself functions today as a repetitive gesture that can not and does not lead to any result – to any conclusive and well-founded aesthetic judgement’ (boris groys)

jon hewitt is an artist because he is not good-looking enough to be a model, athletic
enough to be a football player, passionate enough to be an actor, rhythmic enough to be a musician or clever enough to be a scientist. he studied fine art at oxford brookes university in the uk. he has exhibited in australia and internationally and recently completed a residency at red gate gallery in beijing, china. he also ran the trans-siberian arts centre with artist britt salt earlier this year. his work is held in collections in australia, the uk and usa. he never uses capital letters. ever.
