Simone Hine Once More

Opening: Wednesday 10 August, 6-8pm Dates: 10 – 27 August 2016

‘Once More’ is a provocation regarding the nature of live performance and documentation. Shot using five cameras, this video installation documents a single performance via five individual camera angles, displayed simultaneously. Reminiscent of a 1960s sitcom in both form and content, this work draws on the historical conventions of popular television to examine current debates in performance art.

Simone Hine is a Melbourne-based artist and curator. Her practice utilises performance, video and installation. Hine has exhibited in solo exhibitions throughout Australia including the George Paton Gallery, Melbourne, Brisbane Powerhouse, and Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Careof: Organisation for Contemporary Art, Milan, Experimental Art Foundation, Adelaide, QUT Art Museum, Brisbane, and the Art Gallery of Queensland, amongst others. Hine was a founding co-director of Beam Contemporary, a commercial gallery (2010-2014), and a founding co-director of Screen Space, a not-for-profit gallery Melbourne (2010-2016). Hine recently completed a PhD in Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne.
