Kate Mitchell's practice includes performance-based videos, projections and objects, drawings and conceptual offerings. Her work consistently plays with the joke and the cartooning of violence. Across many videos she performs the Disneyland impossible: cutting a hole around yourself with a saw; walking on a barrel; climbing a ladder while cutting rungs. Mitchell works on the limit of the acceptable and normal. She finds the irrational in life in order to reflexively question herself, her material reality, and her place within a society in which we all constantly perform. Mitchell has had numerous solo exhibitions including: In Time, Anna Schwartz Gallery Melbourne, Hypnotised Into Being, Chalk Horse Gallery Sydney, Magic Undone, Artspace, Sydney and has exhibited in group shows nationally and internationally. Mitchell completed a Masters of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts (with Honours) from the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW.

Kate Mitchell is represented by Anna Schwartz Gallery, Melbourne and Chalk Horse Gallery Sydney.
