Tia Ansell, ATA, 2018 (2019)

  • 360x300mm
  • Edition of 10 + AP
    archival lightjet print

Tia Ansell’s practice is distinguished by her synthesised aesthetic that fuses traditions of craft, painting and sculpture. Ansell casts, forms and manipulates components that constitute a pre-existing assemblage, including social networks and site-specific matter, to analyse our connection and relationship to materials we surround ourselves with.

Tia Ansell is a Wellington-born, Melbourne-based artist who works predominantly in weaving, tiling, painting and sculpture. Ansell has a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at the Victorian College of the Arts (2018). Recent exhibitions include: Techne (Grids, threads and casts) at Station Gallery, Melbourne; Fate Fabrics at {Suite} Gallery, Wellington; Melbourne comes to Sydney at Home@735, Sydney; Smoke Screens, Lon Gallery, Melbourne; Leave the key under the mat, Bus Projects, Melbourne; Evening Side, Caves Gallery, Melbourne; and South, North to Indented Head, Hugo Michell Gallery, Adelaide. Ansell has been awarded the Majlis Travelling Scholarship, National Gallery of Victoria Woman’s Association Award, John Vickery Scholarship, Valerie Albiston Scholarship and the National Gallery of Victoria.
