Nina Gilbert, Protest image 1 (smoke cloud) (2017)
- Edition of 5 + 1 AP, Archival hand printed
Nina Gilbert’s use of photography and video draws upon the relationship between images, encounter and event. Through a process of continuous interrogation of marginal sites, places of congregation and of everyday transit Gilbert’s intention is to locate unusual points of view or expose something of the precarious identity of the photograph. Resting between a fictitious and documentative space the often deliberately obstructive or liminal points of view reference a limited accessibility or freedom that one has to operate within or move around these sites. Nina Gilbert graduated in 2014 from the Victorian College of the Arts and has exhibited in galleries across Australia and internationally.
