Clare Rae, Untitled Action for Bus (2015)

  • 297 x 420mm
  • Edition of 5 + AP, Pegasus Print

Clare Rae is a Melbourne based artist working with the body, gesture and performative photography to explore feminine representation. Through a dialogue on the performative body in art practice, her work seeks to address a dichotomy inherent in photography; the distance between capture and representation.
Clare completed her Master of Fine Art degree from Monash University in 2014 and was the winner of the RMIT/Siemens Fine Art Scholarship and CCP/Colour Factory Award in 2009. She has held a variety of solo exhibitions including 20+9+5 Sutton Projects, Melbourne, 2015; Interact, Sydney Contemporary Art Fair, 2013; Selected Videos, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, 2013; VIDEOS, Beam Contemporary, Melbourne, 2012; Light Weight, Beam Contemporary, Melbourne, 2011; Testing, Beam Contemporary, Melbourne, 2010; Climbing the Walls and Other Actions, Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, 2009; The Chase, Blindside ARI, Melbourne, 2009; Rise and Fall, Bus Gallery, Melbourne, 2009; Desire and the Other, Seventh Gallery, Fitzroy, 2008. Recent group exhibitions include Re-Raising Consciousness, TCB Art Inc 2014; Crossing Paths with Vivian Maier, Centre for Contemporary Photography 2014; Melbourne Now, National Gallery of Victoria 2014.
For the Bus Projects limited edition Clare has explored the gallery spaces at Bus, capturing an image that records her body navigating the iconic mechanical structures in Gallery 3.
